So after nearly 7 years of sleeping, Jahshaka is back. Since we have tried before and never made it, this time around I will be posting regular updates in our blog so that people can follow my progress as I bring Jahshaka back to life.
What is Jahshaka
Jahshaka was a silent revolution. I wrote Jahshaka to bring the power of Hollywood’s high end special effects systems to everyone on the planet, and it started a chain reaction that comoditized the industry. At the time, a visual effects solution ran over $500,000 and were hard to get a hold of. Now everyone has the power to create great content.
Jahshaka itself has had over 2.5 million downloads, and still gets over 500 downloads a day. Our goal is to bring it back up to speed with the industry and deliver killer tools for creating immersive content.
Why did it take so long ?
I got very far on my own – made it through a few years and up to 1.9 really. With the 2.0 release, the project was forked as the OpenLibraries were created as a solution for the limitations in cross platform media libraries. Unfortunately, OpenLibraries didnt take off, they were to hard to manage and maintain, and they really brought the project down.
So why now ?
The underlying software that Jahshaka is built on, Qt, has caught up with the rest of the world and now has advanced solutions for 3d, audio and video – everything we need to bring Jahshaka back to life. Jahshaka will be built entirely on Qt moving ahead!Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)
Next steps
Next steps will be to bring all the code back to life. Its been over 7 years so it will be a challenge, but one that I look forward to exploring with you all.
Thanks!
